Desirée and Jim did not see each other on their wedding day before the ceremony, but they left plenty of time to relax with their bridal party before and get some portraits—and to have pizza and slap on some temporary tattoos. They also included their very cool parents in the mix , which made for a few colourful photos—which I will leave on the disc.
Their ceremony was on the fantastic deck of the Arbutus club where guests were treated to live music by a husband and wife duo who pulled off very nicely one of my favourite songs by Ray la Montagne. After the ceremony we headed back toward Main.
I loved that Desirée and Jim went out a few days before the wedding to do a little location scouting in their neighbourhood and even sent me a few snaps, which I followed up on. I’m so glad I did too, because the weathered turquoise interior of Monsoon Restaurant is no more. I went in a couple of nights before the wedding and tried the spicy chips with banana catsup while I contemplated the wind blown sari curtain and all the possibilities for some solid chiaroscuro. ( ; It was a place that Desirée and Jim liked to frequent, and something of a landmark, so it’s nice to have captured them in there in its final weeks or days! I had a lot of fun with the bridal party—I think it’s difficult to find a shot where people aren’t laughing.
