I love shooting in new places, and Geoff and Laura’s wedding at the Harvest in Kelowna was not only a treat in terms of new surroundings but a wonderful experience because of the incredible warmth and energy of their friends and family. I began at the bride’s family’s beautiful waterfront summer home. Everyone was on schedule getting ready, but when we heard that the traffic on the bridge was terrible, the pressure was on to get out the door. Laura and I were determined, however, to get some shots on the dock, as this has been a favourite spot for years. She mentioned the many memories she had of the dock, and I love shooting portraits in significant spots. Her emotion there was quite contagious. The first shot I’ve posted here is Laura regaining her composure— I am so glad we had that bit of quiet time on the end of the dock to take a couple of deep breaths before jumping in the limo and heading into a very emotional ceremony!
I often find it difficult to photograph at golf courses because they tend to be short on a variation of scenery and lighting conditions (ie. not very many or very big trees), but after the ceremony we found a lovely pear orchard which was simply Edenic! The pears were literally ripened and falling off the trees. After dinner I was so pleased that Geoff and Laura pulled me aside to ask if we could go out and take a few shots of the rainbow. Could we?! Speaking of dinner, check out my beef shot. Not too shabby for a vegetarian photographer, no? After dinner we were treated to some brilliant speeches and a live band… oh, and check out the deadly dessert. Some kind of chocolate pâté with raspberry coulis…oh my! Laura won’t mind me dwelling on the food– I learned through the speeches that perogies rank a close second to love on her list. ( ; Thanks so much, Geoff and Laura, for bringing me up to your beautiful celebration!
