I’m very happy to share this beautiful little wedding which took place at Brix Restaurant, in the charming courtyard– a rare find in Vancouver.

Meredith & Derek

Meredith and Derek’s beautiful wedding took place at Rockwater Secret Cove Resort on the Sunshine Coast. The flowers were by Mi-Won Christiaanse, a talented Sunshine Coast florist who ordered in the lace ribbon for Meredith’s bouquet all the way from NYC! I love commitment and attention to details like that.

harinder & clinton

I have always stressed over finding portrait locations. Every summer I spend a couple days out of every week driving and walking around the city looking for an ‘interesting’ or attractive location to which I will take couples and bridal parties to be photographed on the wedding day. I try to time it so that I am at my locations at the same time of day with the same probable weather as will be on the wedding; then I hold out my hand and look at the light and shadows. Lately I’ve been stressing over locations in a different way— in the way that locations provide context. Context has always a meaning and sometimes that meaning is irrelevant, confusing or distracting from what is important in the photograph. For this reason I am lately inclined to simplicity. I was initially attracted to this white wall for the contrast it would provide to the ornate Indian wedding clothes; but the more I worked on these images the more I appreciated it as an appropriate backdrop and open space for people from different countries and cultures to be photographed. (Despite our proximity to roses. Pink ones. ) Full blog post to come a bit later, with lots of lovely context.

my sister’s wedding

My sister got married to her man, Clint, on July 8th at Cammidge House, Delta. They both live in Prince George and planned the event from there! Kylah came down in early May to attend to some details with me, like ordering her flowers from Colin at Kits Market (who did a fabulous job!) and choosing her Elsa Corsi designed earrings from Jeweliette (this was a highlight of the day I remember). Kylah’s handmade butterfly sandals were ordered from Etsy and were perfect for walking around the grassy, beachy venue. Makeup was by Jessica of Mac (the Bay, Richmond) and hair by Spencer Jensen of Coup Salon, cake by Anna Elizabeth Cakes, and the officiant was the always vivacious Marilyn Knipp! Marilyn performed my mother’s wedding in 2008, and we were so glad she was available for Kylah & Clint. This was my first time photographing a full length wedding since having Jonah five and a half weeks earlier. I enjoyed myself, but between shooting and the odd break for nursing, I feel badly that I didn’t get a chance to chat with some relatives from Alberta and Saskatchewan I haven’t seen in four years…. or even local family I only see at Christmas. Oh well. I guess there’s facebook…. Oh, and it was wonderful to have Amish and Natisha along to provide some stills and cinema! Thank you!
