manusha & jon

What a perfect way to start back to shooting only five weeks after having a baby! Jon and Manusha’s eight guests traversed some of the more challenging trails of Whytecliff Park to reach a private spot on a cliff overlooking the ocean and hear them exchange vows. This was a first for us– having the groom (and commissioner) choose a spot for the ceremony upon arrival then sending someone back to guide the bride, and we loved it. Manusha wore the sari her mother wore for her wedding, and we all enjoyed two kinds of the most fabulous wedding cake I’ve ever had after the little portrait shoot. (Here’s hoping there are recipes!) In any event, it’s great to be back!

our little boy

Jonah Thorvald Sorenson Grant was born 1st of June 2011, 5:07 pm, very roughly around the time I heard people screaming down the hall about the winning Vancouver goal in game one of the finals. Here he is on day three. We are so happy to have him here at last, and so not getting much else done….

This post has been exactly two years in coming! This was one of my favourite weddings of some of my favourite people, and it’s their second anniversary tomorrow (as well as my baby’s official due date!) I’m happy to say that with all my fooling around with black and whites of various degrees of contrast and tone since, I recently received a sample album with these images and it did not feel like old news. Something different– all BW and pretty much all candid imagery. Ceremony & reception: Hycroft Manor.

india

Last spring I was in rural northern India to volunteer my photo skills for Operation Rainbow Canada, a volunteer organisation which provides free plastic surgery for kids with cleft palates and burns. You can visit the posts about my time in the Akal Charitable Hospital of Baru Sahib here, here and here. (Yes, three posts.) After my stint up north I met Jules at the New Delhi airport and we went on a two week road trip around other parts of Northern India. Tidying up some of these photos and blogging a few has been on my to-do list for over a year now, and the baby’s impending arrival is probably what’s got this finally done. Anyway, I’m not much of a travel photographer– I’m very shy and self-conscious about being a tourist, but here is a sampling nonetheless.

akaal singh

I haven’t shot many baby/family sessions, but it’s something I think I’d like to do more of! (Perhaps with a smaller belly.) Last month I got to practice on my friend Pardeep Singh‘s family. His son Akaal Singh was grinning at me before I pulled my camera out, at which time he became quite serious… almost like he’s already tired of the camera! Hmm, wonder how that could be. I know it’s mother’s day today and there are lots of dad/son shots here, but I shall soon be in Gurjeet’s position and I already know that mums like those kind of photos very much!
