tanya & don

Text below.

I’ve decided to switch things up here and put text below the post to keep the top of the blog looking cleaner. This little aesthetic shift is in keeping with the aesthetic shift of this wedding—yesterday I was sent a link to the top ten design blogs from which I deviated and discovered a site with a great name—‘pale and interesting.’ When I was processing Tanya and Don’s images I kept thinking how there was a consistent look of ‘dark and interesting.’ From the Opus Hotel for getting ready to the curtained corridor of Brix as a backdrop to the ceremony, the red nails and sapphire bride’s maids’ dresses to the piper’s tartan, the darkness offset the pale and was delicious.

Tanya & Don’s reception photobooth

In the slideshow the photobooth pics play to Edith Piaf’s “Non, Je ne regrette rien” which turns out to be a very funny soundtrack for these kinds of photos. Tanya and Don’s wedding pics hit the blog tomorrow. I’m on a roll!

Theressa & Damon

When I look at the photos I am reminded of what a range of activity there was at this wedding—yet somehow it all ran smoothly. Five outfit changes, door games with barefoot scrabble, a tea ceremony, a lovely wedding ceremony on the walkway of VanDusen Gardens, drawing of a mural (in, as luck would have it, colour-appropriate chalk), a lion dance performed in part by Theressa’s brother, and a round or two of a very odd game which involved breaking one another’s ‘eggs.’ All good fun! Please see the bottom of the post for more details.

Katie & Paul

Two Sunshine Coast weddings back to back! Well that’s how it went. This one was set on private property which has been in the bride’s family for a long long time—we knew we were in the right place when street names became family names! The overcast skies gave us some nice soft light for portraits out on the rocky beaches mid day, and the rain held long enough for the ceremony to take place on a beautiful point out into the water without the bridal party having to be covered. Cocktail hour was dry too. It only started to precipitate once everyone was safely under the reception tent, and Katie was able to make some use of her custom designed (she even started the knitting!) pink cardigan. Note the West coast tradition of putting a broom in a tree to hold off rain in the frame below of the bride and groom talking—Jules pointed this out to me—I had never heard of this, but did wonder why there was a broom in a tree when the rest of the property was so immaculately maintained. Shendah & Jeff

Shendah and Jeff’s sea-breezy wedding was my first time to the famed Rockwater Resort on the Sunshine Coast. It’s quite a place! The guest tents are more like high-end little Ewok houses which branch off of an impressive boardwalk wrapping around the side of a sea cliff, each carefully situated for maximum privacy. What a brilliant venue to bring all of your guests for a few days—to celebrate not only a wedding but the wedding anniversary of Shendah’s parents as well, on the same day! (The food is also two thumbs up in case you’re wondering.) It was an immensely refreshing day out of the city, surrounded by great familial love, sky and sea, and some Halloween party stories…so glad to have been there.
